Getting Low-E Preheating Right on Wide-Format Glass

If you’re trying to preheat wide-format Low-E glass, you know the struggle. You need the heat to be perfectly even across the whole sheet. But once you go past 3 meters, things get tricky. You start dealing with thermal sagging and wasted energy.
We’ve found a way to fix this by pairing customized long-tube infrared emitters with high-reflectivity gold reflector plates.
The deal with gold reflectors
Most people use standard aluminum reflectors, but here’s the problem: they leak too much energy into the furnace chassis. It’s a waste.
We switched to gold-coated plates because gold is just better at reflecting infrared heat. Instead of the heat soaking into the machine frame, it gets pushed right back toward the glass. It’s more efficient, which means you don’t have to crank up the wattage just to hit your target temperature.
The 3-meter hurdle
You can’t just make a tube longer and call it a day. Long quartz tubes are fragile. If they’re too long, they start to bow under their own weight.
That’s where we get picky about the build. We use segmented support brackets and very specific tensioning to keep those tubes from touching the reflector plate. Why? Because if a tube sags and hits that gold plate, you get a hot spot. And a hot spot will burn through your filament in a matter of hours. Not a great way to spend a Tuesday.
Power and the “hidden” details
We tweak the voltage and wattage to fit whatever power grid you’re already running. These long-tube setups put out a massive amount of heat density, which is great—until you think about the airflow.
Make sure your cooling fans are actually up to the task. If the air doesn’t move around the lamp ends, the connectors will overheat and fail prematurely. It’s a small detail, but it’s the difference between a machine that lasts and one that breaks.
We design these as drop-in replacements for your wide-format drying tunnels. The result is a smooth, uniform heat map across the glass. No warping, no headaches, and the Low-E coating actually sticks the way it’s supposed to.
